Program Locations: Can Tho, Quy Nhon, Da Nang, Hue
Project Duration: January 2014 – June 2016
Project Lead: Ngo Thi Le Mai, Country Coordinator, Vietnam
Project Overview
The goal of this project is to reduce the climate vulnerability of households living in peri-urban areas in Vietnamese cities undergoing rapid urban development. The project reviews specific cases and examples in 4 cities of Vietnam—Hue, Da Nang, Quy Nhon and Can Tho, in order to describe the problems and explore causes in thesedifferent contexts, with a special focus on social vulnerability, decision processes, and institutional issues. The key strategic approach will be to engage local partners in both the studies and analysis in order to build capacity and to embed conclusions and recommendations within local organizations.
The project's objectives include:
-
Identify changing climate risk and vulnerability profiles through recent experience with climate disasters in peri-urban areas of 4 cities;
-
Assess planning procedures and urban development practices in order to identify improvements to current practice that will reduce climate risk;
-
